The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria has categorically dismissed a viral report claiming the suspension of Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly.
The statement, issued by Conference Chairman Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin on Thursday, labeled the July 30, 2025, article by TruthParrotNews as “false, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.”
The erroneous report alleged Egbedun’s suspension for insubordination and abuse of office.
Ogundoyin clarified, “No such suspension occurred, and no press conference was held in Ibadan or elsewhere to make such a claim.”
He emphasized the Conference of Speakers’ commitment to transparency and due process, affirming Egbedun’s standing as a respected, active member.
Expressing dismay at TruthParrotNews’ lack of journalistic integrity, the Conference demanded an immediate retraction and public apology, warning of potential legal action if the outlet fails to correct the narrative.
Ogundoyin urged media outlets to verify information to avoid reputational harm and public confusion, stating, “Freedom of the press carries a responsibility to combat fake news.”
