Some Officers of the Nigerian Customs Service have been attacked in Adamawa state by suspected Petroleum smugglers.
This was disclosed by Controller Hussein Ejibunu, the National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, on Thursday. He revealed that the attackers injured some customs officers and attempted to set them on fire.
Ejibunu also revealed that there has been two different attacks in the span of two weeks by smuggling suspects. He noted that the first attack occurred on the 16th of July, stating that it is very disturbing.
According to him, the officers were ambushed with daggers and sticks, and narrowly escaped being forced into operational vehicles the smugglers allegedly intended to set ablaze.
“It is only by the special grace of God that our men were not burnt alive,” Ejibunu said.
Ejibunu condemned the attacks, emphasising the command’s commitment to arresting smuggling activities in the state.
