Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi. This means that Adeniyi, whose tenure was initially expected to end on August 31, 2025, will now remain in office until at least August 2026.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the extension was granted to allow Adeniyi to continue with key reforms and projects that are crucial to the administration’s vision for the Nigeria Customs Service.
These ongoing initiatives include the continued modernisation of the Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the effective execution of Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
The presidency commended Adeniyi’s dedication, describing him as a leader who has shown consistency, integrity, and a strong sense of duty.
President Tinubu expressed full confidence in Adeniyi’s ability to build on the progress already made and to lead the Customs Service toward greater efficiency and effectiveness in its operations.
The statement added that the President believes the additional year will give Adeniyi the opportunity to strengthen the institution’s role in in trade facilitation, boost revenue generation, and ensure better security at Nigeria’s borders.
It is that with this extended tenure, the Customs Service will be in a better position to meet the administration’s goals and deliver improved services to the Nigerianpeople.
