‘Galatasaray didn’t sell any player to sign Osimhen’ – Club VP speaks on €75m deal

Galatasaray Vice President, Abdullah Kavukçu, has revealed that the Turkish giants secured the record-breaking signing of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli without selling any player or borrowing funds.

Osimhen completed a permanent move to Galatasaray in a €75 million deal, which is now the most expensive transfer in Turkish football history. The contract reportedly includes a 10% sell-on clause and performance-based bonuses tied to the number of goals he scores.

The 26-year-old Super Eagles star had earlier enjoyed a successful loan spell at the Istanbul-based club, scoring 37 goals in 41 appearances and helping Galatasaray lift the league title. His impact endeared him to fans, who turned out in large numbers at the Atatürk Airport to welcome him upon his return.

Speaking to Hurriyet, Kavukçu explained the behind-the-scenes efforts that made the move possible.

“My president and I believed in this project and began working on it as far back as January. We were determined to sign Osimhen without resorting to loans or selling any of our players,” he said.

“A portion of the money was paid upfront, and the remaining balance will be completed within a year.”

He also addressed critics who had doubted the club’s intentions, saying, “Some people mocked us, claiming it was all PR. Now that it’s done, we hope they acknowledge our efforts. We didn’t ask for help from anyone. The responsibility is now with the fans.”

Kavukçu called for patience and faith from supporters as the club continues to strengthen the squad.

Osimhen’s arrival is seen as a strong boost to Galatasaray’s ambitions in both the Turkish Super Lig and UEFA competitions.
