Lagos to spearhead National HIV Strategy at 7th Council on AIDS

The Lagos State Government, through its AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), is set to reinforce its leadership in Nigeria’s fight against HIV by hosting the 7th National Council on AIDS (NCA) from August 5 to 7, 2025, at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island.

Dr. Folakemi Animashaun, LSACA’s Chief Executive Officer, announced that the three-day summit will bring together critical stakeholders, including federal and state health officials, development partners, civil society, and community organizations.

The event aims to evaluate progress, tackle emerging challenges, and forge sustainable strategies to advance Nigeria’s HIV response.

The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, will open the council on August 5, while Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will deliver the closing address on August 7.

A Gala Night will celebrate significant contributions to the national effort.

“With global funding waning, Nigeria must prioritize homegrown solutions to sustain our gains and meet the 2030 goal of ending AIDS,” Dr. Animashaun stated.

Dr. Animashaun urged public and private sector stakeholders to engage actively, underscoring Lagos’ commitment to an inclusive, impactful HIV response. “Hosting this council reflects our resolve to lead and ensure no one is left behind,” she said.

The 7th NCA is poised to shape a resilient, forward-looking strategy for Nigeria’s HIV response, with Lagos at the helm of this critical national dialogue.
