Governors Babagana Zulum (Borno), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), and Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa) have been nominated for the 2025 African Governors Excellence Award.

The Vice Chairman of the Selection Committee, Idahosa Osamahze, confirmed the development in a statement sent to PM News on Friday.

Mr. Osamahze announced that the award ceremony is scheduled to take place on August 19 in Paris, France.

He explained that the initiative is designed to promote excellence in public service, inspire innovation in governance, and encourage the adoption of best practices for the socio-economic development of Africa.

According to Mr. Osamahze, the prestigious award celebrates visionary leadership, exemplary governance, and impactful development efforts by governors across the continent. It recognizes their unwavering commitment to sustainable transformation within their regions and states.

“The award is intended to highlight transformative achievements in key areas such as healthcare, infrastructure, education, economic empowerment, and inclusive governance,” he noted.

From Egypt, the nominated governors include Abdel Amara (Kafr El Sheikh), Amr Hanafi, Gamal Nour El-Din, and Khaled Fouda.

Kenya’s nominees are Hillary Barchok, George Natembeya, Mohamed Adan Khalif, and Jeremiah Lomorukai.

“These governors represent leadership driven by vision, integrity, and purpose,” Mr. Osamahze said. “Their efforts are transforming lives, driving prosperity, and inspiring a new generation of public servants across Africa.”

The Paris ceremony is expected to draw high-level dignitaries, development partners, diplomats, and stakeholders from across Africa and Europe.

The event will feature keynote speeches from global policy leaders, panel discussions on innovations in sub-national governance, and networking opportunities aimed at strengthening intergovernmental collaboration.
