Arsenal have ended their interest in Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak after completing the signing of Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP. Despite ongoing speculation about a potential bid for Isak, club sources have confirmed that Arsenal will not be pursuing another forward this summer.

The decision follows input from newly appointed sporting director Andrea Berta, who believes that signing two top-level strikers in one transfer window is neither practical nor financially sensible. Arsenal have already invested more than £65 million in Gyökeres, who arrives as the club’s primary centre-forward option.

Isak had been under consideration due to his goal-scoring record and strong performances in the Premier League. However, concerns around his fitness and injury history ultimately played a part in Arsenal’s decision to step away from the deal. Additionally, with Kai Havertz available to play through the middle if needed, the club has opted to focus on reinforcing other positions.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have taken the lead in the race for Isak, having submitted an initial bid believed to be between £110 million and £120 million. Newcastle United rejected the offer, maintaining their valuation of the Swedish international at closer to £150 million. With Isak under a long-term contract, Newcastle are under no obligation to sell and are reportedly determined to keep hold of one of their most valuable assets.

Liverpool are expected to return with an improved offer as they look to bring in a marquee attacking player before the transfer window closes.
