Ademola Lookman submits transfer request to force Inter Milan move
Quick Read
Lookman has yet to feature in any of Atalanta’s preseason fixtures, with speculation swirling that he is being held out amid ongoing negotiations.
Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman has officially submitted a transfer request to Atalanta BC in a bid to force through a move to Serie A rivals Inter Milan, sources close to the club have confirmed.
The 27-year-old Nigerian international, who played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph last season, has grown increasingly frustrated over the club’s reluctance to negotiate his departure.
According to multiple reports, Inter Milan have made several attempts to secure Lookman’s signature during the current summer transfer window, with their latest offer reportedly in the region of €45 million.
However, Atalanta have so far refused to entertain the proposals, insisting the player is not for sale.
On Saturday night, respected football journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Lookman had formally handed in a transfer request. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Romano stated:
“EXCL: Ademola Lookman has now handed in a transfer request. The Nigerian forward has officially asked Atalanta to leave the club after the Italian side rejected Inter’s opening bid. Lookman wants to join Inter.”
Lookman, who joined Atalanta from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2022, enjoyed his most prolific season yet in 2024/25, scoring 18 goals and providing 9 assists across all competitions.
His standout performance came in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, where he scored a historic hat-trick to help Atalanta lift their first-ever European trophy.
Inter manager Simone Inzaghi is believed to be a long-time admirer of Lookman and views him as a key reinforcement for the Nerazzurri’s attacking line ahead of the new season. Inter are currently reshaping their squad following the departure of veteran forward Lautaro Martínez to the Premier League earlier this summer.
Lookman’s contract with Atalanta runs until June 2027, placing the club in a strong negotiating position.
However, with the player now openly pushing for an exit, pressure is mounting on the Bergamo-based club to reconsider their stance.
Neither Atalanta nor Inter Milan have issued official comments regarding the transfer request as of press time.
Lookman has yet to feature in any of Atalanta’s preseason fixtures, with speculation swirling that he is being held out amid ongoing negotiations.
His next move could have major implications for both clubs as the new Serie A season approaches.
