Ajadi rallies support for NNPP in Remo, reveals he rejected lucrative offers to step down in 2023

Southwest chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and 2023 Ogun State governorship candidate, Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has disclosed that he was offered large sums of money by opposition parties to abandon his candidacy

Southwest chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and 2023 Ogun State governorship candidate, Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has disclosed that he was offered large sums of money by opposition parties to abandon his candidacy during the last election.

He, however, rejected the offers, saying his mission was to liberate the people of Ogun State from misrule and exploitation.

Ajadi made the revelation on Sunday, August 3, at the Ilara Remo Town Hall during the official campaign flag-off of Rasaq Segun Shofowora (RSS), the NNPP candidate contesting for the Remo Federal Constituency seat in the by-election scheduled for August 16, 2025.

“I was approached and lured with money during the 2023 governorship race,” Ajadi stated. “But I told them I wasn’t in the race to enrich myself. My goal was, and remains, to rescue the people of Ogun State from those mismanaging our collective resources for selfish gain.”

Known for his grassroots political involvement, Ajadi urged voters—particularly parents and guardians—to reject vote-buying and vote-selling.

“When people sell their votes, they sell their future. The real dividends of democracy can only be realized when the right candidates are elected, not when votes are traded for money or food,” he said.

Ajadi also threw his full support behind Shofowora, describing him as a true son of the soil and a candidate committed to justice and progress.

“Rasaq Segun Shofowora is your own. He understands your struggles and has both the passion and empathy to represent this constituency effectively in Abuja. Come August 16, I urge you to vote your conscience—vote RSS.”

The Remo Federal Constituency—comprising Sagamu, Ikenne, and Remo North—became vacant following the death of Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip and APC lawmaker, in January 2025.

In his remarks, Barrister Femi John Aina, the Ogun State NNPP Chairman, praised Ajadi for his steadfastness and commitment to the party and the people.

“Ajadi has shown uncommon courage and a deep love for the people. His humanitarian initiatives speak volumes. By the grace of God and the will of the people, he will become the Governor of Ogun State in 2027,” Aina declared.

He also criticized Nigeria’s dominant political parties, the APC and PDP, accusing them of failing the nation.

“They have nothing new to offer. The time to begin correcting the system is now. Vote for Rasaq Segun Shofowora — a man of conscience and vision.”

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Shofowora, a political newcomer with strong grassroots appeal, pledged to transform representation in Remo land.

“I am a son of nobody, fighting for the sons and daughters of nobody to become somebody in this society,” he said. “I pray daily that God makes me a pillar of hope and blessing to everyone around me.”

He criticized the misuse of constituency allowances, which, he said, run into billions annually.

“A representative receives over ₦1.5 billion yearly. That money should not go into luxury dinners or private comfort. If we truly fear God, we must invest it in our people — our farmers, our traders, our students, and our elderly.”

He continued: “Our graduates need employment. Our mothers deserve business support. Our elderly should access healthcare without stress. I promise you: all 13 towns in Remo will feel the presence of true representation.”

In a heartfelt plea to voters, he concluded: “No amount of money they give you on election day can lift you from poverty. If you believe in a New Nigeria, vote for someone with fresh ideas and a clear conscience. Vote for your brother, your son — Rasaq Segun Shofowora.”

The flag-off event also had in attendance key NNPP leaders, including Southwest PRO, Comrade Kilamuwaye Badmus; Ogun State Secretary, Alhaja Shakirat Arowolo; State Women Leader, Mrs. Foluke Precious Bagbasoro; Assistant Financial Secretary, Hon. Adenaya Fatai (Modawoni); State Youth Leader, Hon. Funso Jide Adekunle; Hon. Kehinde Teluwo; and Hon. Akingbala Semiu, among others.

The campaign gathering emphasized NNPP’s call to end transactional politics and champion a people-centered government, presenting the party as a credible alternative in Ogun State politics.
