Opposition will collapse in Edo before 2027 – Gov Okpebholo boasts
Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has declared that the opposition in the state will be completely wiped out before the 2027 general elections.
The governor made the bold statement on Saturday during the official flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial campaign in Uromi, ahead of the August 16 by-election in Edo Central.
According to Okpebholo, the defection of major opposition figures to the APC is a clear sign that the ruling party is gaining unstoppable ground across the state.
“I’m calling on all opposition candidates to do the needful, join the moving train now and contribute to the development of Edo State,” Okpebholo told the crowd of supporters.
Flanked by APC state chairman Jarrett Tenebe, the governor welcomed several heavyweights from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the APC fold. Among the defectors were Alhaji Esiwele Musa, Abraham Osazuwa, Sunny Ejie, and Robert Okoneme, drawn from the 51 wards in the senatorial district.
The governor didn’t stop there, he went further to project a landslide for the APC in the coming elections, including President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid.
“President Tinubu’s re-election is sealed. In Edo alone, we’ve locked down 2.5 million votes. This by-election is just a warm-up,” he said.
