Amorim eyes 20-year stay at Man United despite woeful debut season

Ruben Amorim says he wants to manage Manchester United for the next 20 years, even after delivering one of the club’s worst-ever Premier League campaigns.

Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag as United boss in November, has managed just seven wins in 27 matches. The Red Devils ended the 2024/25 season in 15th place, which happens to be their lowest finish in over 50 years.

But the 39-year-old Portuguese tactician is far from discouraged.

In a chat with ESPN, Amorim said: “I want to stay for 20 years. That’s my goal, and I genuinely believe it’s possible. Something always happens. Sometimes I’ll get lucky, I’ve been very lucky throughout my coaching career—and my intention is to stay here for many years.”

He admitted that his debut season didn’t go to plan: “I know I didn’t succeed last year, but I’m ready to start again. Results are what matter most we all know that.”

Despite the criticism and pressure, the former Sporting Lisbon boss says Manchester United have everything needed to bounce back.

“I have no doubt we’ll succeed,” he said. “Some things can’t be bought with money and this club has those things: history, passionate supporters, and yes, financial power. We have money, even without Champions League football.”

Amorim remains optimistic heading into the new season, hoping that patience, belief, and a long-term project will win over fans and critics alike.
