Wike fires warning shot at PDP as fresh crisis looms

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has fired warning at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to prepare for another round of internal crisis if the outcome of the South-South zonal congress is not respected.

Wike, who spoke during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Monday, insisted that the Calabar congress which produced Chief Dan Orbih as National Vice Chairman (South-South) must stand, or the party should brace for trouble.

“Our South-South zonal congress that was held must be upheld. There’s no doubt, no two words about it. If they want another round of crisis, so be it,” he fired.

Wike also took a direct swipe at the PDP’s Acting National Chairman, accusing him of creating confusion with false claims that governors did not support the zonal congress.

“Some people came out to say PDP governors were not in support of the South-South congress. Where are they now?” he asked.

The minister’s outburst has reopened old wounds in the PDP, coming barely two years after the party was rocked by internal divisions ahead of the 2023 elections.
