In a renewed drive to expand access to quality healthcare across Lagos State, the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) has flagged off a free medical outreach programme aimed at improving health outcomes in underserved communities.
The initiative was launched by the First Lady of Lagos State and Chairperson of COWLSO, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, during a flag-off ceremony held at GOS Ground, Mushin.
The outreach forms part of activities commemorating the 25th anniversary of the annual COWLSO National Women’s Conference and is positioned as a special health-focused gift to residents.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Sanwo-Olu reiterated that COWLSO, as a gender-based, community-oriented organisation, is committed to complementing the efforts of the state government through a range of humanitarian and welfare interventions.
“For 25 years, the COWLSO National Women’s Conference has remained a credible platform to confront challenges affecting women and children. Through this free medical outreach, we are bridging health gaps and promoting inclusive wellness for all,” she said.
Themed “Healthy for All: Bridging Gaps, Building a Healthy Future,” the medical outreach will offer free screenings, consultations, and health education at three designated locations:
Mushin: GOS Ground, August 5–6, 2025
Makoko: Aiyetoro Primary Health Centre, August 19–20, 2025
Epe: Epe Recreation Centre, September 2–3, 2025
Each outreach will commence at 9 a.m. daily and will provide essential medical services including screening for hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis, cervical and breast cancer, as well as eye and dental checks.
Residents will also benefit from health talks delivered by medical professionals.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu called on Lagosians to prioritise preventive care by adopting healthy habits such as regular physical activity, increased intake of fruits and vegetables, and reduced salt and sugar consumption.

“As we work to ensure accessible healthcare for all, it is also important that individuals take responsibility for their own wellbeing. Regular health check-ups and lifestyle adjustments are critical,” she advised.
The Lagos First Lady also commended the ongoing impact of the Renewed Hope Initiative spearheaded by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, noting its significant strides in the areas of health, education, social investment, and economic empowerment.
In his remarks, Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Tunbosun Aruwe, expressed deep appreciation to COWLSO and Dr. Sanwo-Olu for bringing the initiative to the community, describing it as a life-changing intervention that will enable more residents to access quality healthcare services.
The event was attended by senior government officials, members of COWLSO, party leaders, and community stakeholders.
