National Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Mr. Sanusi Abubakar, made the announcement during a two-day technical visit to the state, where he led a team to inspect the proposed site for the facility.

The Federal Government has approved the establishment of a model veterinary hospital in Gombe State through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES).

National Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Mr. Sanusi Abubakar, made the announcement during a two-day technical visit to the state, where he led a team to inspect the proposed site for the facility.

Abubakar stated that the move is part of a broader strategy to improve animal healthcare nationwide. “The goal is to enhance disease surveillance, strengthen health systems, and facilitate product certification for both local consumption and export,” he said.

The hospital will be sited within Gombe’s newly designated 184-hectare Agro-Livestock Development Zone and will serve as a pilot project for future infrastructure rollouts under the L-PRES programme.

“This is the first of its kind in the country, and we hope Gombe becomes a model for others,” Abubakar added, expressing satisfaction with the project’s early progress.

He reaffirmed the national office’s support for livestock initiatives in Gombe and emphasized the importance of timely and effective implementation.

Mr. Usman Abubakar, Gombe’s L-PRES Project Coordinator, described the approval as a major milestone for the state and thanked the federal team for selecting Gombe as the pioneer host of the strategic facility.

The hospital will offer diagnostic, treatment, training, and research services, and is expected to significantly boost livestock productivity in Gombe and the wider northern region.
