The Federal Ministry of Education has confirmed that a technical issue affecting the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results has been successfully resolved.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, the glitch was linked to post-release processing in certain subjects where paper serialisation had been introduced to enhance exam security by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The Ministry expressed appreciation for WAEC’s prompt intervention, transparency, and professionalism in tackling the problem, noting that updated results would be available on the result checker portal within 24 hours.
In addition, the Ministry thanked affected students for their patience during the period and reiterated its commitment to maintaining equity and credibility in all national assessment processes.
“This incident underscores the Honourable Minister’s broader commitment to education reform, with a focus on strengthening the integrity of examinations across key assessment bodies like WAEC and the National Examinations Council (NECO),” the statement read.
As part of ongoing reforms, both WAEC and NECO are preparing to introduce Computer-Based Testing (CBT) in phases, starting with the objective sections of examinations in November 2026.
The Ministry believes that transitioning to CBT is vital in the fight against examination malpractice and question leaks.
It is seen as a strategic move to restore confidence in Nigeria’s examination system and to ensure that students are evaluated purely on merit—preserving the value of their academic credentials both at home and abroad.
Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, Minister of State for Education, reaffirmed that protecting the sanctity of examinations is non-negotiable.
“Maintaining high standards is crucial for securing the future of our young generation and sustaining Nigeria’s global academic reputation,” Boriowo added.
