“He lied to me for years,” Yemi Elesho exposes family secret

Popular Nigerian comedian and actor, Yemi Elesho, has opened up about a deeply personal chapter of his childhood, revealing that he didn’t know veteran Nollywood actor Adewale Elesho was his biological father until he was nearly 10 years old.

In a conversation with actress Biola Bayo, Yemi disclosed that the revelation came unexpectedly while watching a movie with his mother.

“I grew up in Oyo, and till I was about 10, I didn’t know Elesho was my dad,” Yemi shared. “One day, we were watching a film and my mum said, ‘That is your dad.’”

Yemi explained that during his early years, he lived primarily with his mother and occasionally stayed with his grandmother. Out of fear or uncertainty, he never mustered the courage to ask about his father.

Driven by curiosity and a longing to meet him, Yemi once ran away from home to search for his father in Lagos, leaving a note for his mother and urging her not to look for him.

In a lighter part of the interview, Yemi expressed gratitude to nightlife personality Yhemo Lee, praising his consistent generosity.

“Shout out to Yhemo Lee. Whenever we’re out with him, he pays the bills. None of us had to worry about anything,” he said.
