Super Falcons’ Nnadozie, coach Madugu earn Ballon d’Or nominations
Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and head coach Justin Madugu have been nominated for top honours at the 2025 Ballon d’Or awards.
Nnadozie is in the running for the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award, while Coach Madugu has been shortlisted for the Women’s Coach of the Year category.
Their nominations follow Nigeria’s impressive outing at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where the Falcons claimed their 10th continental title after a flawless run in Morocco.
Nnadozie, who captained the team, was outstanding throughout the tournament pulling off crucial penalty saves and commanding the defence with confidence. Her performances between the posts were instrumental in Nigeria’s unbeaten run.
Coach Madugu, who took charge of the Super Falcons in late 2023, is being hailed for transforming the squad into a disciplined and attacking unit. Under his guidance, the team saw off tough opposition, including host nation Morocco and defending champions South Africa, to reclaim the WAFCON trophy.
The Ballon d’Or nominations were announced on Thursday, with global stars across men’s and women’s football recognised.
The 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony will be held on September 22 in Paris, where winners across all categories will be unveiled.
