Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has renewed his call for a single five-year term for Nigeria’s president, scrapping the current two-term system.
Speaking in Bauchi on Friday during a visit to Governor Bala Mohammed, Obi said the change would end the culture of presidents spending most of their first term preparing for re-election.
“It should be five years straight. Come in, do the job, and go. No second term,” he said, citing South Korea’s system as a model.

In response, Governor Mohammed urged Obi to return to the Peoples Democratic Party, saying, “That is where you belong… we must put ego aside for Nigeria’s sake.”
