The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is mourning the passing of Chief Audu Ogbeh, an elder statesman and former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development who died on Saturday in Abuja.

The road safety agency is mourning because Ogbeh was the pioneer National Coordinator of the FRSC Special Marshals.

In a condolence message to the Ogbeh family on Sunday in Abuja, the Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, described Ogbeh’s death as a monumental loss to the nation and the FRSC.

He described Ogbeh as a statesman of national repute and a visionary who recognised that saving lives on Nigeria’s roads required the active participation of citizens.

According to him, Ogbeh’s pioneering role in mobilising volunteer road safety advocates will remain a landmark in the Corps’ history.

“He was the first National Coordinator of Special Marshals following the establishment of the FRSC in 1988.

“Ogbeh laid a solid foundation for volunteerism in road safety advocacy, a foundation upon which the scheme continues to thrive decades later,” Mohammed wrote, describing the great man as a bridge between governance, civil society, and grassroots engagement.

According to him, Ogbeh’s contributions to agriculture, national development, and road safety have left indelible marks on the country’s history.

He expressed heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Benue State on behalf of the “Management, Officers, Marshals, and the entire Special Marshals family.”

The agency condoled with Ogbeh family and Nigerians and prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul.
