Breaking: EFCC arrests ex-Sokoto gov Tambuwal

Former Sokoto State governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, is currently answering tough questions at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja over a mind-boggling N189 billion scandal.

Sources inside the anti-graft agency revealed that the withdrawals, allegedly made in cash during Tambuwal’s tenure, fly in the face of the Money Laundering (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, 2022.

The ex-governor, who now serves as a key powerbroker in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reportedly walked into the EFCC complex at about 11:30 a.m. on Monday and has been undergoing interrogation since.

“The withdrawals are in clear violation of the law,” an EFCC insider revealed, insisting the probe had been quietly running for months before Monday’s grilling.

While the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, refused to confirm or deny the arrest until the questioning wraps up, the development has already sent shockwaves across political circles.

Tambuwal, who governed Sokoto from 2015 to 2023 and was once Speaker of the House of Representatives, is now the latest high-profile politician to be caught in the EFCC’s net.
