Revealed: Why Rashford may miss Barcelona’s LaLiga opener
Marcus Rashford may be forced to miss Barcelona’s LaLiga opener against Mallorca as the club struggles to register all its summer signings.
Rashford, who joined on loan from Manchester United last month with an option for a £30m permanent move, is among three new arrivals — along with Roony Bardghji and Wojciech Szczesny, yet to be cleared to play.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed on Monday that only goalkeeper Joan Garcia has been successfully registered after resolving a dispute with Marc Andre ter Stegen.
“We’re working to make it happen,” Laporta said. “Hopefully we can register them before LaLiga starts. If not, there’s still time.”
Ter Stegen had been stripped of the captaincy last week over a row linked to his back surgery but has since reached an agreement with the club, allowing his medical report to be filed. He has now been reinstated as captain.
Laporta praised the German, calling him “an excellent goalkeeper and person” who has been with Barça for 12 seasons and lifted the Champions League.
Barcelona’s financial issues have repeatedly delayed player registrations in recent seasons. Last term, Dani Olmo and Pau Victor were temporarily registered before LaLiga revoked their licences mid-season, sparking a long-running dispute.
