Kidnapper arrested after father of victim identified him

A suspected kidnapper identified as Mohammed Rabiu has been arrested in Barkin-Sale, in Chanchaga Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State after a father of one of the victims of his gang identified him.

The arrest of Rabiu who was alleged part of the gang of kidnappers that abducted a 10-year-old boy from Dagwi Village, via Beji in 2023 was announced in a statement released by the spokesperson of Niger Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun on Tuesday,

In the statement in Minna on Tuesday the Abiodun said the kidnap gang collected a ransom of N300,000, a carton of energy drinks, packets of cigarette, foodstuffs and recharge cards before they released the victim.

According to Abiodun, Police operatives attached to the division arrested Rabiu of Lambata in Gurara LGA after the father of the victim identified him as part of the gang that abducted his son in Barkin-Sale area of Minna

“It was reported that a group of suspected kidnappers invaded a settlement at Dagwi Village, via Beji in 2023 and kidnapped a 10-year-old boy from the settlement.

“Investigation revealed that a ransom of N300,000, a carton of energy drinks, packets of cigarette, foodstuffs and recharge cards were taken before releasing the victim.

“On Aug. 2, at about 9am, the father of the victim sighted and identified one of the kidnap suspects in Barkin-Sale, Minna.

“Hence, he raised an alarm and the suspect was arrested.

”During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and mentioned others as Mahmuda, Aminu, Ibrahim, Yellow, Muazu and Lago,” Abiodun said.

He said that the suspect also confessed to the killing of a farmer in the same area in 2023, adding that they usually take their victims to Washa forest via Beji.
