Why we extended tinted permit deadline again – Police

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has officially extended the deadline for the commencement of enforcement on vehicles operating with tinted glass without proper authorization. Initially scheduled for August 12, 2025, the enforcement date has now been shifted to October 2, 2025.

This extension follows a significant response from the public, with a high number of vehicle owners applying for tinted glass permits through the appropriate channels. According to Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the new date was set to allow the police ample time to thoroughly process applications and verify each one to ensure compliance with national security protocols.

“We have observed an impressive level of compliance from Nigerians, many of whom have initiated the permit process in accordance with our directives. This extension is to ensure that due diligence is followed, and that only qualified individuals are issued permits,” said ACP Adejobi.

He also emphasized that the review process will include background checks, and applicants will be screened to determine whether their use of tinted windows aligns with legal and security standards. The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to ensuring that permits are issued transparently and responsibly.

The tinted glass regulation is part of the broader national effort to enhance public safety, prevent criminal activity, and ensure accountability on Nigerian roads. The police reiterated that enforcement will begin immediately after the new deadline, and violators will face appropriate legal consequences.

Vehicle owners who have not yet applied for the permit are strongly advised to visit the official Nigeria Police portal and complete the application process before the new enforcement date.
