CHAN 2025: What Sudan’s Ghanaian coach told Eric Chelle after 4-0 bashing
Quick Read
With Nigeria now out of the competition, questions will likely arise about the future of the coaching staff and the development strategy of the national B team.
Sudan’s national team coach, Kwesi Appiah, has offered some constructive advice to Nigeria’s coach, Eric Chelle, following a decisive 4-0 victory by Sudan over Nigeria’s home-based team at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The match, which took place on Tuesday, resulted in Nigeria’s elimination from the tournament.
Sudan’s dominance was evident throughout the game. Two goals from Abdel Raouf, a strike by Walieldin Khedr, and an unfortunate own goal by Nigeria’s Leonard Ngenge sealed the comprehensive win.
The result leaves Sudan at the top of Group D with four points from two matches, while Nigeria sits at the bottom of the group with no points, having lost both of their games.
In his post-match remarks to the press, Appiah refrained from celebrating excessively and instead chose to reflect on the Nigerian team’s performance.
He acknowledged that while the Super Eagles B team showed glimpses of good football, especially in terms of possession, they lacked sharpness in their attacking play.
“The Nigerian coach just needs to refine his attacking line a bit more,” Appiah stated. “Their first match against Senegal wasn’t too poor. Even in this match, they had some good spells with the ball. However, our tactical approach gave us the advantage.”
The defeat marks a disappointing campaign for Nigeria, who were also beaten 1-0 by Senegal in their opening group match. For Sudan, the victory serves as a boost as they prepare to face Senegal next in what is expected to be a decisive group stage encounter.
With Nigeria now out of the competition, questions will likely arise about the future of the coaching staff and the development strategy of the national B team.
Meanwhile, Coach Appiah’s Sudanese side continues to grow in confidence as the CHAN tournament progresses.
The Super Eagles B will play their last group game against Congo next week Tuesday before returning home.
