The chairmen of Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South in Ogun State have announced introduction of a health insurance scheme for motorcycle riders with a view passengers to help safeguard the health of a rider and his passenger during accident.

Speaking at a press conference held at NUJ secretariat, Okelewo Abeokuta Ogun state capital the Abeokuta South LG chairman noted that the aim of the scheme was not to extort anyone for money, but to enable quick response when accident occurs which involves Motorcycle riders.

He said “the intention of the daily Health Insurance Scheme of N300 per day was to ensure quick response when there is an accident in any where in the local governments, the scheme is not to extort or disturb any union ticket activities.

Oyegbola noted that if a rider registered for the insurance for a month, the registration will cover such rider for a year and any passenger involved in accident with him.

“The president’s directive is to provide insurance cover for the poor, which you’re committed to implementing and during our election campaign,we made promises about making changes and lifting up the local government, and we’re working to fulfill those promises.

He noted that over 900 cards of the Health Insurance Scheme has been issued to motorcycle riders in Abeokuta North since last week.

The LG targeted at least 3000 riders and same goes to Abeokuta South.

He added that the aim was to provide a safety net for riders and passengers in case of fatalities or other incidents.
