Ogebe, who sat just two feet away from Emmanson during the August 10 flight from Uyo to Lagos, insisted that at no point did she refuse to switch off her phone, contrary to circulating reports.

A Nigerian man, David Ogebe, who was on the same Ibom Air flight where passenger Comfort Emmanson was arrested, has shared a shocking first-hand account of what really happened on board.

Ogebe, who sat just two feet away from Emmanson during the August 10 flight from Uyo to Lagos, insisted that at no point did she refuse to switch off her phone, contrary to circulating reports.

According to him, the drama began when Emmanson explained to one of the flight attendants that her phone’s power button was faulty and asked for assistance to turn it off via settings. When she admitted she couldn’t read and pleaded for help, the hostess allegedly responded with, “Please, I don’t have time for your nonsense. Better switch off that phone immediately.”

The humiliating remark stunned nearby passengers, prompting one of them to help switch off her phone. Ogebe claimed that when Emmanson later confronted the hostess over the insult, the staff member vowed to “deal with her” before storming off to the cockpit.

While Ogebe condemned the disorderly conduct seen in viral videos after landing, he stressed that the incident was fueled by “grave unwarranted humiliation and provocation” from the airline staff.

He praised another hostess on the flight for her professionalism, noting that the clash could have been avoided with more empathy and better staff training.

“I am ready to stand by all I have said here and testify if need be,” Ogebe stated.
