2025 NPUGA Games: Private universities unite at opening ceremony in Babcock University

The 8th edition of the Nigerian Private University Games (NPUGA) officially began with an exciting opening ceremony held at Babcock University stadium.

The event brought together athletes from over 30 private universities across Nigeria, all of whom participated in a colourful and well-coordinated march-past, proudly representing their schools.

Professor  Philemon Amanze senior Vice President Academics, who stood in for the Vice Chancellor of Babcock University, welcomed all the participants and officials to the institution.

In his speech, he emphasized the importance of NPUGA as a platform that not only promotes sportsmanship but also helps to build unity and friendships among students from different parts of the country.

He noted that the Games provide a unique opportunity for private university students to showcase their sporting skills and talents, while also encouraging healthy competition, discipline, and teamwork.

According to him, NPUGA plays a vital role in the development of young athletes and helps to nurture future champions who can represent Nigeria at national and international levels.

The atmosphere at the ceremony was lively, with music, dancing, and cheers from students and supporters.

2025 NPUGA began with a football contest between host Babcock University and Crawford university.

Crawford University scored two first half goals while the  host team could only manage a goal in the  dying minute of  the  second half of the encounter to reduce the tally as they eventually lost by 2-1.
