DSS captures deadly terror leader in Niger

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Abubakar Abba, the feared leader of the Mahmuda terror group, in a major security breakthrough in Niger State.

Abba, described as one of the most dangerous terrorist kingpins in West Africa, was captured in Wawa, Borgu Local Government Area, in an intelligence-led operation carried out without a single shot fired.

He is accused of masterminding recent attacks in Borgu and other parts of Niger, as well as in Kwara State.

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, confirmed the arrest in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, on Thursday in Minna.

“This is a huge victory for our state and our country,” Bago said, commending President Bola Tinubu and the DSS for the successful operation.

He said the suspect had been moved to Abuja for further investigation and praised the DSS for its “tremendous intelligence and competence” in capturing such a high-profile target peacefully.
