The company had reportedly sent out letters and proposals to people and organizations, asking them to buy an “expression of interest” form for the properties.
The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has said it has not authorized any company or consultant to sell the 753 houses seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which are linked to the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Badamasi Haiba, made this statement in response to claims by a company (name withheld) that it had been appointed by the government to manage the sale of the houses.
The company had reportedly sent out letters and proposals to people and organizations, asking them to buy an “expression of interest” form for the properties.
The ministry confirmed that it saw a copy of such a letter, which was signed by a person claiming to be the company’s chief executive.
To clarify, the ministry stated that no sale of the 753 houses has started.
It assured the public that any official sale process will be clearly announced, following instructions from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The ministry also advised people to contact its Public Building and Housing Development Department or its Press and Public Relations Department to verify any information before spending money.
