Nigerian professional dancer Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, popularly known as Kaffy, has addressed being stereotyped and not being desired for marriage.
Kaffy who is also a mother of two from her last marriage stated that she is often disqualified for dating because she is a single mother.
While speaking with the Honest Bunch, the dancer expressed her distaste for such stereotypes, highlighting the dangers of such labels.
“I have had somebody tell me because I’m a single mother he can’t even think of dating me because I have two children… What makes you think that a woman that has been divorced is not even the better candidate if she had worked on herself? What’s the guarantee that two single people today are not going to be divorced people tomorrow?,” she said.
Kaffy also spoke on the rate of failing marriages, noting that stereotypes play a huge role in such failures.
“Why are people insisting on marrying someone fresh? But both of you are going into the same data that the world has computed for you that over 70 per cent of marriages crash. You are part of the 70 per cent,” she said.
The dancer got married in 2015 to Joseph Ameh, but the couple divorced in 2022. They have two children together.
