Obaship: Olubadan-Designate Ladoja returns to Ibadan amid warm welcome

On Monday, August 18, 2025, Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, former governor of Oyo State and the newly nominated Olubadan of Ibadanland, returned to the ancient city of Ibadan after many weeks of anticipation.

His arrival marked an important moment for both the city and its traditional institution.

Ladoja, who also previously served as a senator, was received by a large crowd of excited supporters at the Ibadan end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Many of them, described as loyal and almost cult-like in their devotion, gathered early in the morning to welcome elder statesman.

After his arrival, he was escorted in a long convoy of vehicles through major parts of the city, eventually making his way to his ancestral home at Isale-Osi.

The atmosphere in Ibadan was filled with joy and celebration as residents came out in large numbers to witness the return of the man who is set to become the 44th Olubadan.

Some waved flags, sang traditional songs, and even played drums to show their support. For many, Ladoja’s return signals a new chapter for the Ibadan traditional leadership.

While it is not yet confirmed how long he will remain at the family compound, reports indicate that his home at Ondo Street in Bodija is already receiving a loads of visitors.

Many individuals, including chiefs, family members, political associates, and well-wishers, are paying their respects and offering congratulations to him.

Ladoja’s nomination as the next Olubadan has been well received by many indigenes and traditional families in Ibadan.

Some elders have expressed hope that his reign will bring peace, unity, and development to the city.

His experience in governance and public service is seen as a strong advantage as he prepares to take on the responsibilities of the throne.
