TikTok slangs have officially gone mainstream, with words like “Skibidi”, “Delulu” and “Tradwife” added to the Cambridge Dictionary.
The dictionary editors said the update reflects how internet culture is reshaping the English language.
Colin McIntosh, Cambridge’s lexical programme manager, explained: “Internet culture is changing the English language and the effect is fascinating to observe and capture in the dictionary. We only add words where we think they’ll have staying power.”
“Skibidi”, made popular by the viral Skibidi Toilet videos on YouTube, is defined as a word with no fixed meaning — used to mean “cool”, “bad” or simply as a joke.
“Delulu”, short for delusional, refers to believing things that are not real, often used humorously online. The phrase “delulu is the solulu” has racked up billions of views on TikTok.
Other new entries include “tradwife” (a conservative homemaker active on social media), “broligarchy” (powerful, wealthy tech bros), “mouse jiggler” (a remote-work cheat tool), and “work spouse” (a close workplace partner).
