Galadima: Why Kwankwaso won’t support Tinubu in 2027

A top chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has poured cold water on speculations that former Kano governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, may align with President Bola Tinubu in the build-up to 2027.
Galadima, speaking on Politics Today on Channels TV, dismissed the rumours, saying it is the NNPP, not the ruling APC that holds the ace in who becomes Nigeria’s next president.
“We are the people who will determine who will be the President of Nigeria in 2027,” Galadima declared.
He accused APC of waging political warfare against Kwankwaso and the NNPP in Kano by backing the reinstated Emir, Aminu Ado-Bayero, despite his removal by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
“How can Kwankwaso be friends with the APC after what they are doing to us in Kano?” Galadima said. “Appointing two emirs in one town, backing one with federal security while the state recognises another? Is it the duty of the Federal Government to appoint and pay emirs?”
He alleged that security operatives were being used to protect Emir Bayero while communities across Kano were left at the mercy of criminals.
Galadima went further, insisting that the emirate tussle is nothing but a political script by the APC to destabilise Kano ahead of 2027.
He dragged President Tinubu into the mix, saying the President once pushed for Muhammadu Sanusi II’s return as emir.
“Was it not Tinubu who canvassed for Sanusi to become emir? Let him deny it, and I will provide instances,” he said.
On whether Kwankwaso had secretly agreed to back Tinubu, Galadima was blunt:
“Let anybody come out and say Kwankwaso has agreed to join the APC. If such talks happened, I would know. He is the strongest political iroko in this country today because he dared the APC and defeated them in Kano.”
