Quick Read

The FIRS initiative officially went live on August 1, 2025, initially covering large taxpayers with annual turnover exceeding ₦5 billion.

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has accredited Interswitch, a leading African payments and digital commerce company, as an Access Point Provider and System Integrator for Nigeria’s new mandatory e-invoicing system under the Monitoring, Billing, and Settlement (MBS) platform.

The MBS platform, launched by FIRS to tackle tax evasion and improve revenue collection, provides real-time or near-real-time invoice validation.

It captures transaction details—including buyer and supplier data, product quantities, prices, and applicable taxes—replacing paper-based and traditional electronic invoices, debit notes, and credit notes with a secure, digital alternative.

With this recognition, Interswitch joins the roll-out of Nigeria’s e-invoicing infrastructure, building on its 2024 selection by the Kenya Revenue Authority as a key technology partner for the eTIMS system.

The development positions the company at the centre of compliance and digital transformation efforts in two of Africa’s largest economies.

The FIRS initiative officially went live on August 1, 2025, initially covering large taxpayers with annual turnover exceeding ₦5 billion.

Following industry consultations, the onboarding deadline has been extended to November 1, 2025, giving businesses additional time for integration and testing.

Interswitch’s accredited e-invoicing solution will connect securely to the FIRS platform, enabling organisations to comply with regulatory requirements while streamlining financial operations.

The platform is designed for both corporates and SMEs, offering automation of invoicing processes, reduction of manual errors, and access to real-time reporting for faster, more accurate tax submissions.

Commenting on the milestone, Muyiwa Asagba, Managing Director for Commercial Inclusion at Interswitch Group, said:

“We are pleased to be recognised by FIRS as a trusted Access Point Provider. This accreditation reaffirms our commitment to delivering innovative solutions that go beyond compliance to create operational value for businesses. Our e-invoicing solution integrates seamlessly with enterprise systems, ensuring accuracy, security, and efficiency.”

He added that the directive represents more than a compliance requirement:

“E-invoicing is an opportunity for Nigerian businesses to modernise their operations, strengthen transparency, and enhance efficiency. Interswitch is committed to making that transition seamless.”
