French President Emmanuel Macron has issued a fresh warning to European allies, urging them to tread cautiously in their dealings with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Speaking in a televised interview on Tuesday, Macron painted a bleak picture of Moscow’s intentions, describing Putin as a destabilising force who has “rarely honoured his commitments.”

His comments come at a time when global attention is fixed on the possibility of a peace summit between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, following talks led by U.S. President Donald Trump and European leaders.

Macron cautioned against optimism, stressing that Russia would not “return to peace and a democratic system from one day to the next.”

In his words, Putin thrives on expansion and intimidation — a dangerous presence Europe cannot afford to overlook.

“Let’s not be naive,” Macron warned, noting that while France may not face an immediate threat, the shadow cast over Europe is undeniable.
