The supplementary election is expected to determine the final outcome for the Kaura Namoda South State Assembly seat.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that a supplementary election for the Kaura Namoda South State Assembly constituency in Zamfara State will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

This development was confirmed by the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Zamfara, Dr. Mahmmud Isah, during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Gusau on Tuesday.

The election is to take place in five polling units where the results of the August 16 by-election were canceled due to alleged irregularities.

According to Dr. Isah, three of the affected polling units are located in Kyambarawa ward Shiyar Magaji (Kofar Hamza) 002, Tukasu (Sabuwar Kasuwa) 009, and Kofar Fafa (Shiyar Fada). The remaining two are in Sakajiki ward  Alko (Shiyar Kudu) 002 and Shiyar Nufawa (Kofar MD Nuhu) 007.

INEC had earlier declared the by-election inconclusive following the cancellation of results in these five units.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Lawal Sa’adu of the Federal University, Gusau, explained that the margin between the two leading parties  the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was 1,662 votes, which is less than the number of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected in the affected areas, totaling 3,265 out of 5,446 registered voters.

The APC had polled 7,001 votes, while the PDP garnered 5,339 votes before the cancellation. Citing provisions of the Electoral Act 2022  specifically Sections 24(2)(3), 47(3), and 51(2)  INEC said it was legally bound to declare the election inconclusive.

The supplementary election is expected to determine the final outcome for the Kaura Namoda South State Assembly seat.
