Reno Omokri, a former Nigerian presidential aide, has claimed that the concept of church weddings are not scriptural.
While responding to a follower’s comment about his views on church wedding, Omokri explained that there is no scriptural backings for church weddings.
“Did Africans get a Scriptural reference before we started implementing this European custom? Jimmy, does it make sense for me to give you a Scriptural reference not to do something that there is no Scriptural reference for you to do?. Are you aware that there is no Scriptural reference for a church wedding? Even the word ‘church’ is not in the Scriptures. It is in the translation, but not in the original Koine Greek.” He responded.
Omokri also explained that weddings recorded in the Bible were done in the home because the ceremony is a family affair.
“Every wedding in Scripture was done at home, because marriage is a family affair. Priests have absolutely NO business with marriages. Because they want your money, they manipulate you by saying that Yeshua (Jesus) attended the wedding at Cana. Yes, He did. But as a Guest, not as an officiating minister. And that wedding was fine at a home, not at a synagogue,” he said.
