“Troops responded swiftly to the intelligence, engaging the armed bandits in a fierce gun battle. Seven were neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Four motorcycles used by the criminals were recovered,” Dr. Mu’azu revealed.

The Katsina State Government has hailed the Nigerian Army for a successful counter-banditry operation that led to the neutralisation of seven armed bandits in the Baba community, Kankara Local Government Area.

The operation, which lasted over two hours on Thursday, August 21, 2024, followed actionable intelligence on the movement of criminal elements terrorising farmers in the area. Addressing the press on Friday, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, described the mission as a “decisive blow against insecurity.”

“Troops responded swiftly to the intelligence, engaging the armed bandits in a fierce gun battle. Seven were neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Four motorcycles used by the criminals were recovered,” Dr. Mu’azu revealed.

He added that the raid is part of a broader security push to rid frontline local governments of criminal hideouts and ensure safe farming during the rainy season.

Commending the military and other security agencies, the commissioner reaffirmed the government’s support in the fight against banditry through logistics, intelligence sharing, and community engagement.

“We urge residents, especially in rural areas, to continue working with security agencies by providing timely and accurate information. Together, we will defeat these criminals and restore peace across Katsina,” he said.
