Anambra man Akpan Godwin arrested with over 1,000 rounds of ammunition

Police said they are hunting for accomplices of a 65-year-old man identified as Akpan Godwin has been arrested with 1,100 rounds of live ammunition in Nkpor, Onitsha, Anambra State.

Godwin was arrested with the ammunition by operatives of police Rapid Response Squad, Akwuzu, while acting on credible information on Friday, the spokesperson for Anambra Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a statement on Saturday in Awka.

Ikenga disclosed that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to being involved in the illegal sale of ammunition and mentioned other individuals reportedly connected to the illicit trade.

The spokesperson assured members of the public that the operatives have stepped up the investigation, disclosing they had launched manhunt to nab all the fleeing accomplices.

Ikenga also promised that further developments would be communicated to the public in due course. (NAN)
