Marseille produced a thrilling attacking display to defeat Paris FC 5-2 in a dramatic encounter at the Stade Vélodrome, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mason Greenwood both on the scoresheet.

The visitors almost struck first in the 6th minute when Willem Geubbels’ header from close range crashed against the post, but Marseille responded quickly.

Aubameyang hit the upright at the other end before going down in the box moments later.

Referee Marc Bollengier initially waved play on but, after a VAR review, awarded a penalty. Greenwood converted confidently in the 18th minute to put the hosts ahead.

Six minutes later, Marseille doubled their lead. Greenwood’s teasing corner found Aubameyang, who tucked the ball neatly into the bottom corner to make it 2-0. Paris FC hit back in the 28th minute when Ilan Kebbal embarked on a fine solo run before blasting past Geronimo Rulli.

The second half proved just as frantic. Moses Simon drew the sides level in the 58th minute with a well-taken finish after Kebbal’s clever through ball.

Marseille responded in style. Aubameyang restored the lead in the 73rd minute, punishing slack defending with a composed strike from the edge of the box.

Eight minutes later, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg extended the advantage with the goal of the night-a thunderous volley from distance that arrowed into the bottom corner.

Marseille could have put the game beyond reach when Greenwood won a second penalty in the 85th minute, but the England international dragged his effort wide.

There was still time for substitute Robinio Vaz to add a fifth in stoppage time with a sharp finish from a tight angle, sealing an emphatic victory for Jean-Louis Gasset’s men.
