Delta police nab 9-man robbery gang, recover N23m loot

The Delta State Police Command has smashed a nine-man robbery gang that has been terrorising communities in Delta and neighbouring Edo, recovering stolen items worth millions.

Police spokesman, Bright Edafe, confirmed in a statement on Saturday that the suspects were arrested in a string of operations between August 11 and 16, following credible intelligence by the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team.

According to Edafe, the syndicate had a peculiar method of operation — hypnotising their victims before stripping them of valuables, including phones, jewellery, motorcycles, and even draining their bank accounts.

“These suspects operate mainly in Warri, Ughelli, and other parts of Delta and Edo States,” he said.

The police recovered two Toyota Camry cars and 16 suspected stolen iPhones from the gang. Investigators also uncovered that the syndicate defrauded unsuspecting victims of N23.5 million and stole no fewer than 42 ladies’ motorcycles.

Edafe added that the suspects are in custody alongside the recovered items as further investigations continue.
