EPL: Missed penalty costs United maximum points against Fulham
Quick Read
Fulham’s late surge ensured they remain unbeaten at home this season, while Ten Hag’s side will rue missed chances that prevented them from climbing higher up the table.
Fulham and Manchester United played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw in their Premier League encounter at Craven Cottage on Saturday, August 24, 2025.
Alexandre Pato put United ahead with a well-taken finish, but the hosts responded through Harry Wilson, whose strike midway through the second half ensured Marco Silva’s men avoided defeat on home soil.
The visitors started brightly, creating early opportunities and looking the more composed side in possession. United should have doubled their advantage before the break when Matheus Cunha missed a clear chance, while captain Bruno Fernandes squandered a second-half penalty that could have sealed the game for Erik ten Hag’s team.
Fulham, however, refused to be subdued. Spurred on by their home support, they improved significantly after the interval. Silva’s substitutions in the final 20 minutes proved decisive, with fresh legs and attacking intent stretching United’s defence.
Wilson’s equalizer was just reward for their resilience and fighting spirit, and the Cottagers threatened to go on and snatch all three points as they finished the stronger of the two sides.
Although United may feel disappointed not to have claimed victory, the draw was a fair reflection of the balance of play.
Fulham’s late surge ensured they remain unbeaten at home this season, while Ten Hag’s side will rue missed chances that prevented them from climbing higher up the table.
The result leaves both clubs with plenty to ponder Fulham will take confidence from their comeback, while Manchester United must address their lack of clinical finishing if they are to mount a serious challenge this season.
