Security operatives in Adamawa have busted a secret slaughterhouse in Yola, the state capital, where stolen cattle were being butchered and sold to unsuspecting members of the public.
The breakthrough was recorded by Operation Farauta, a government-backed security outfit set up to tackle criminal activities in the state.
The illegal slaughter point, tucked away in the Bachure area of Yola North Local Government, was exposed following the complaint of a herder who had lost one of his cows.
The herder, identified as Mallam Gagare, told reporters that he trailed the footprints of his missing cow until they led him straight to the slaughterhouse. He quickly alerted security agents, who stormed the premises.
When newsmen visited the scene on Saturday, a freshly slaughtered cow was sighted. Investigations also revealed that a toilet in the building had been converted into a dumping spot for animal waste.
Operation Farauta operatives have since taken over the premises as part of efforts to clamp down on the network of cattle rustlers troubling the state.
