Kaduna SDP knocks El-Rufai over claim of party collapse

Nasir el-Rufai

Quick Read

The SDP in Kaduna State has dismissed claims by former governor Nasir El-Rufai that its structure has collapsed into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna State has dismissed claims by former governor Nasir El-Rufai that its structure has collapsed into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement by its chairman, Adamu Idris, the party described El-Rufai’s remarks as “false and misleading,” stressing that the SDP remains alive and strong across the state.

The party said El-Rufai’s brief stay in the SDP only brought confusion, but peace and stability have since returned after his exit.

“Our structures are robust and intact. We are committed to the true interests of Nigerians and will not be distracted by El-Rufai’s attempts to sow division,” the statement read.

The SDP further blasted the ex-governor, branding him “a non-democrat, self-serving desperado, unrepentant bigot and tyranny personified.”

It assured supporters of its readiness to play its role as a credible opposition in Kaduna politics.

El-Rufai had over the weekend announced that the entire SDP structure in Kaduna had joined the ADC, in a move he said was to strengthen opposition unity.

But the SDP insists its members remain firmly within the party and not part of any coalition.
