Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin, has caused a stir after declaring that Nigeria’s creation was not divine but a colonial project designed for Britain’s economic gain.

Speaking during a Sunday sermon, Adefarasin said the country was never established by God, but by deals struck between colonial powers.

“Nigeria, I do not believe it was created by God. I believe it was a British arrangement for their purse,” he told the congregation.

The cleric argued that Nigeria’s constitution is illegitimate since it was written by soldiers and not by the people, warning that the country is built on a faulty foundation.

Quoting Psalm 11:3, he said: “If the foundation is destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

He added that poor governance and corruption remain Nigeria’s biggest problems, citing badly constructed roads as an example of leaders enriching themselves through recycled contracts.

Adefarasin also downplayed the role of Nigeria’s celebrated nationalist leaders, insisting that Lord Lugard, British officials, and even Lugard’s partner were the real architects of Nigeria’s creation.

“Awolowo, Tafawa Balewa, Ahmadu Bello, and Azikiwe are not the founding fathers of Nigeria. It was Whitehall men, Lugard, and his girlfriend who gave the country its name,” he said.

The pastor’s remarks have sparked heated debate, with many questioning his interpretation of history and others backing his claim that Nigeria’s foundation remains deeply flawed.
