Bashir Abdullahi Haske, son-in-law of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has challenged claims by the EFCC that he is dodging arrest, revealing that his health deteriorated while in their custody.
The businessman said he had fully cooperated with investigators, submitting evidence to prove the legality of his financial dealings linked to alleged multi-million-dollar NNPCL contracts. Yet, he claims the EFCC denied him bail until medical concerns forced their hand.
“This is not a case of running away,” Haske said, pointing fingers at what he described as politically motivated moves aimed at exploiting his family ties. “All I ask is that investigations follow the law, not politics.”
The development raises fresh questions about the agency’s handling of high-profile suspects and the balance between enforcement and human rights, especially for individuals with serious health concerns.
Haske remains on bail, receiving medical treatment, while insisting he will continue to cooperate with legitimate inquiries.
