The Benue State House of Assembly has slammed a three-month suspension on its immediate past Speaker, Aondona Dajoh, accusing him of masterminding a plot to impeach Governor Hyacinth Alia.
The decision came during Tuesday’s plenary after Terna Shimawua, member representing Kyan Constituency, raised a motion calling for Dajoh’s suspension. The motion was swiftly seconded by James Umoru of Apa Constituency.
Ironically, Shimawua was one of the lawmakers Dajoh suspended barely a week ago before bowing to pressure and resigning from his position as Speaker.
Presiding Speaker Alfred Berger upheld the motion but softened the punishment, cutting the initial six-month suspension to three. In a twist from tradition, the resolution was adopted without a formal vote, underscoring the Assembly’s united front against Dajoh.
Meanwhile, the House also reversed itself on another matter by confirming Timothy Yangien Ornguga as Commissioner, a nomination it had earlier rejected.
