In a statement shared on his X account while attending an official engagement in Brazil, the president said he is closely monitoring the situation.

“I am deeply saddened by this incident. My heartfelt prayers are with the injured, their families, and all passengers who experienced this distressing event,” Tinubu said.

He added that he has been receiving updates and is awaiting a full briefing to ensure immediate action.

The president also assured that the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is taking steps to manage the aftermath of the derailment and prevent future occurrences.

“I remain fully briefed on the developments and expect swift measures to support those affected. The NRC is actively addressing the situation, and necessary steps will be taken to prevent a recurrence,” Tinubu stated.
