Asaba 2025: Excitement builds as National Youth Games set to light up Asaba from August 29

Asaba is bracing up for an electrifying atmosphere as the 9th edition of the National Youth Games gets underway on August 29, 2025.

For nine action-packed days, the Delta State capital will become the gathering point of Nigeria’s most promising young athletes who will compete for medals, recognition, and glory across 37 different sporting disciplines.

The Games, which run until September 6, are expected to be the biggest yet in the history of the competition.

According to the Digital Registration Management records, a total of 6,382 individuals are billed to participate, cutting across all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

The official breakdown includes 4,961 athletes, 635 coaches, 386 team officials, and 400 state delegates. Although Gombe State is still in the process of completing its entry procedures for its 74 participants, the figure of 6,382 has already been confirmed as the official registration number.

This record turnout underlines the growing significance of the National Youth Games as not only a stage for sporting contests but also a platform for cultural exchange and national integration.

Every state will be keen to leave its mark, but the spotlight will undoubtedly fall on Team Delta, the defending champions, who will be competing on home soil.
