Bloody clash rocks popular Lagos market, 2 feared dead

A violent clash on Wednesday threw Lagos Island’s popular Balogun market into chaos, leaving at least two persons feared dead.

Viral videos on social media captured scenes of mayhem, one showing a man hacked with a machete lying motionless, while another clip showed the alleged killer stripped naked and reportedly lynched on the spot.

The exact cause of the fight remains unclear. While some eyewitnesses linked it to a cult war, others claimed it was an inter-tribal clash between Yoruba and Igbo traders.

Shops were shut as traders fled for safety, while police are yet to issue an official statement at the time of filing this report.
